Thirty years of experience in research and development in material science/solid state physics/polymer physics/ carbon black industry including doctoral research. 4 years of industrial experience while working as assistant manager (R&D) in Carbon and Chemicals (India) Ltd (presently Philips Carbon, Cochin). Interests include nanomagnetic materials, magnetic nano composites, amorphous thin films, magnetic elastomers, ferrofluids and conducting polymers. Actively involved in research in the area of using carbon black in composites for making stealth materials and also for preparing composites for aerospace applications. Well versed with the process/production and quality control of various types of carbon black (quality control of feed stock and finished products). Published over 150 papers in reputed, national and international journals and over 90 presentations in seminars/symposium. Contributed one chapter to a book named “Polymer thin films”. Teaching postgraduate students, guiding doctoral candidates and other researchers for over 30 years. Worked at the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands as a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a year during1993-94 on a BOYSCAST Fellowship awarded by the Government of India. Currently leading several sponsored research programs in the Department of Physics in the area of Solid-state physics and material science. Received M.Sc degree in physics from the University of Bhopal, India in 1979 and Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India in 1985 and also carried out post doctoral research at the Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Also a visiting professor at the University of Konstanz, Germany and Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Guided 25 Ph. D students and 3 post doctorate students to the successful completion for the degree. Guided more than 35 M.Phil candidates to the successful completion of the research requirements for the award of the degree. Currently guiding 8 candidates towards Ph.D. degree. His current interest is in the frontier area of nanoscience and nanotechnology and in polymer physics.
